PURPOSE
To enable the Compan y’s shore based management to respond in an orderly and pre-planned manner to de al with emergencies involving vessels operated b y the Company.
This Emergency Respons e Team has been organised to deal promptly and effectively with casualties involving the Company’s vessels. The team is formed from Managers and superintendents of various departments and will be activated to respond to emergencies affecting the Company’s s hips.
On receipt of information concerning a casualty, the team will immediate ly be activated. Notification of a casualty will normally come through operational channe ls but first news could come from virtually any communication medium.
The tanker crewing companies are looking for reliable seafarers, well trained and experience.
SCOPE
This procedure identifies the shore based management’s Emergency Respon se Team and the broad measures necessary to deal with an emergency that may seriously affects any vessel.
A shipboard emergency ma y be one or a combination of the following:-
Main Engine Failure.
Steering Gear Failure.
Collision.
Grounding .
Dangerous Structural Defect.
Cargo Spillage.
Oil Pollution or Spillage
Fire.
Flooding.
Shifting of cargo causing a dangerous list.
Cargo Jettisoning.
Man overb oard/man missing/Search and Rescue.
Piracy.
Note: Attention is also drawn to The Emergency Response Plans
The Company’s shore based Emergency Response Centre is based at its Head Office and this locati on will be the focal point of all communications throughout the emergency.
