Accident
incident involving injury or damage to life, the environment, the ship or her cargo
Administration
It is the Government of the State whose flag the ship is entitled to fly
Audit
it is a systematic examination to determine whether the SMS activities and related results comply with planned arrangements and whether these arrangements are implemented effectively and are suitable to achieve
Auditor
An independent person qualified to perform verification of compliance with the requirements of the ISM Code.
Internal Auditor
A person of the Company qualified to perform verification of compliance with the requirements of the ISM Code.
Company
The ship owner or any organization or person (i.e.: manager, bareboat charterer) that has assumed responsibility for the operation of the ship from the ship owner and who, on assuming such responsibility, has agreed to take over all the duties and responsibilities imposed by the ISM Code.
Designated Person Ashore (DPA)
The person(s) ashore with direct access to highest level of management who has the responsibility and authority to monitor the safety and pollution prevention aspects of the operations of each ship, and to ensure that adequate resources and shore based support are applied, as required.
Finding
it is a non-fulfilment of objectives or requirements defined by the company which goes beyond what should be subject to mandatory ISM Code certification
Hazardous situation
It is a situation where the safety of the personnel, ship, cargo, or the environment are at risk
ISM Code
The International Safety Management Code for the safe operation of ships and for pollution prevention adopted by IMO with the Resolution A.741(18).
Non-conformity
it is an observed situation where objective evidence indicates the non-fulfilment of a specific requirement of the ISM Code
Major non-conformity
it is a non-conformity which poses a serious threat to personnel or ship safety or serious risk to the environment and requires immediate corrective action. A major non conformity may include lack of effective and systematic implementation of the requirement of the ISM Code
Responsible for the SMS
The management representative who has the responsibility to review, improve and modify the company’s policy so that the safety and environmental protection objectives are achieved
Safety Management System (SMS)
it is a structured and documented system enabling Company personnel to effectively implement the Company safety and environmental protection policy
