General (524)
Any discrepancies or damage done to cargo during loading/discharge operations must be brought to the attention of the stevedores and a damage report completed and signed. At termination of loading the Chief mate job description should be satisfied himself that all cargo has been properly stowed and secured prior to sea passage. OVERLOADING The Master shall strictly observe the Load Line Rules. He shall ensure that cargo planning takes into account the ship’s planned routing and seasonal load line zones. He shall ensure proper account is taken of the port water density. In some bulk loading ports it is almost impossible to subsequently discharge excess cargo from a ship which has overloaded. It is therefore extremely important to ensure the ship never exceeds its assigned marks. CODE OF SAFE PRACTICES FOR SOLID BULK CARGOES For the care of bulk cargoes onboard bulk carriers, Master and officers to consult relevant sections of the Code of Safe Practice For Solid Bulk Cargoes. A Copy of this publication MUST be kept onboard only on all bulk carriers and kept under the custody of the Master.
