From time to time, vessels are required to operate in conditions/areas, which are predominantly ice bound, and/or in areas where the prevailing ambient weather conditions
fall below a level, where there is every likelihood of ice formation on vessels ballast tanks the surrounding sea as well as icebergs deck/within the
There are a fair number of conditions that can be elaborated on. One of it is lng tanker vacancies.
However, it is to be expected that where the ambient temperature falls to a level where freezing or near will occur. It is safe to say that these conditions will prevail and the following are guidelines to which the vessels crew are to be made aware of.
Where freezing temperatures are prevalent the use of correct clothing must be worn
At all times prior to being exposed to the elements
b) The Master is to ensure that there is sufficient cold weather gear available and in usable condition. This is to include shoes, hats, gloves and overalls.
c) Where temperatures are such that icing occurs, no crew members are to move outside into the elements unaccompanied and improperly dressed.
Any person going out onto deck or outside to perform any duty is to be accompanied at all times.
As long as the vessel is under the influence of the storm similar messages should be transmitted at least every 3 hours if possible.
