The Master or Senior Officers have determined that the HOT WORK procedure is safe.
Precautions have been explained to all personnel.
Deck watch has completed been informed when HOT WORK is to begin and when
Objects on which HOT WORK must be performed in the adjacent territories and adjacent places tanks and compartments, have been cleared of all flammable material and have been tested with recommendation of Jobs At Sea , “SAFE FOR WORKERS/SAFE FOR HOT WORK” and ENCLOSED SPACE ENTRY CHECK LIST ACCEPTABLY COMPLETED.
Welding/cutting equipment and personnel protective equipment found to be in good condition.
HOT WORK will not reduce vessel’s fire fighting capability. If so, then there must be alternative arrangements to cater for any emergencies.
Instruct and maintain a fire watch with extinguisher (and hose if applicable) in work area and adjacent compartments as required with tested means of communication until work has cooled.
All necessary terminal, port authority and governmental approvals have been obtained where necessary.

ENGINEER’S WORKSHOP PRECAUTIONS ADDITIONAL TO GENERAL PRECAUTIONS 7 DAY PERMIT
Notify Engineering Watch Officer or standby engineer before hot work begins and upon completion.
Local housekeeping checked. Fire alarm tested.
Check for special precautions to be taken and noted.
Check permit validity period.
Permit opened (issued) and signed by Chief Engineer or 2nd initialed by all workers engaged in HOT WORK in the workshop.

ENGINE ROOM/ACCOMMODATION PRECAUTIONS, ADDITIONAL TO GENERAL PRECAUTIONS
The bilges below hot work must be checked and be free of flammable vapor and concentration.
Work will be shielded to contain sparks.
For hot work on piping used to carry flammable substances – section has been dismantled and/or cleaned and checked free of flammable vapour.
For hot work on pipe sections which extend beyond engine room – section has been blanked.
For hot work in engine room, notify Engineering Watch Officer or standby engineer before work begins and upon completion.
Check for special precautions to be taken and noted.
Hot work will stop if there is any change in conditions. A new permit must be issued if the work is hot stops for longer than 6 hours.
Validity period noted.
Place and job description
Permit opened and signed by Chief Engineer or 2nd Engineer and worker. Permit thereafter “closed” by the same personnel.
