Crew Members are required to comply with the safety and pollution prevention regulations and operating procedures at all times and to take the necessary precautions to protect themselves, their colleagues, the ship, its cargo and the environment. Job specific requirements are covered in the documented S.M.S.
It is the individual responsibility of every crew members to familiarise themselves with the daily operations onboard the ship and the documented Safety Management System located in the master’s office.
Crew Members must also bear in mind the security arrangements of the vessel as in compliance with the ISPS Code.
BOSUN
The Bosun shall normally perform his duties under the direction of the Chief Officer. However, when assistance to the Engine Department is given, he shall follow the instruction of the Chief and Second Engineer Officers. The Bosun shall be responsible to the Chief Officer for all deck maintenance,
including the ship’s hull, and shall supervise his subordinates to ensure that all operations are safe and efficient.
Under the instruction of the Chief Officer, the Bosun shall supervise his subordinates in preparing the cargo holds for receiving cargo. Obstacles in bilge wells shall be cleared.
Before arrival, the Bosun shall get ready all mooring ropes and wires and ensure that the windlass, anchor and cables are in all respectively ready for use. Hatch covers shall also be unsecured and made ready for opening or removal.
Under the direction of the Chief Officer, and during mooring, unmooring and anchoring, the Bosun shall be stationed in the fore part of the vessel.
Before putting the vessel to sea, the Bosun shall ensure that all hatch covers are properly secured and all cargo gears are correctly fastened. The Bosun shall then report to the Chief Officer.
Immediately after departure, all mooring ropes and wires shall be properly stored, anchors and cables securely pulled back, cargo lashings thoroughly checked and all water- tight doors securely closed.
The Bosun shall ensure that all deck machinery, equipment and regularly greased.

The Bosun shall assist the Chief Officer in the maintenance of the ship’s store and control over its consumption. A detailed record shall be kept for the Chief Officer’s reference. The Bosun shall ensure that the cargo gears and all tools are well maintained, and are always in good working order. The Bosun shall instruct and supervise his subordinates in the maintenance and cleanliness of all public areas.
Once a week a major cleaning operation shall be organized, in areas including the mess rooms, recreation rooms, public lavatories and bathrooms as per sound of excellent Seajobs vacancy practice. When the vessel is in port, the Bosun shall ensure that a proper gangway watches and fire patrol are carried out by the Duty AB, and that all mooring lines are kept at the correct tension.
The Bosun shall partake and instruct his subordinates in the receiving, transportation and storing of supplies (i.e. spares, provisions and the replenishing of the bonded store).
The Bosun shall ensure, and report to the Chief Officer, that appliances and firefighting equipment are well maintained.

In addition to the duties stipulated above, the Bosun shall perform other duties assigned to him by his superiors. Under the direction of the Chief Officer, the Bosun shall be responsible for the upkeep of the vessel’s paint store, associated equipment and inventory.
A.B (ABLE BODIED SEAMAN)
In addition to the assistance given to the Bosun in his duties, the AB shall carry out soundings in all bilge wells and fresh water tanks at least twice every day and shall keep detailed sounding records for the Chief Officer’s reference. Should there be any abnormalities in the AB’s findings the Chief Officer shall be immediately informed.
Under the direction of the Deck Officer, the AB shall be positioned in the aft or forward station of the vessel to supervise the operation of mooring or unmooring. The AB shall be responsible for the rigging of the pilot ladder and the gangway. The Senior A.B. shall be responsible for the operation of fresh water replenishment.
The AB shall take his turn at steering according to his given orders and assist the Duty Officer in his look out when the vessel is at sea.
When instructed, the duty AB shall hoist the flag, display shapes, carry out fog Signals and maintain lights appropriate to the circumstances prevailing.
Under the instruction of the Chief and Second Officers, the Duty AB shall ensure that the bridge and its surrounding areas are kept in a neat and orderly manner.
The AB shall keep all flags, shapes, lamps, lifesaving apparatus, signals and gong in their proper place so that they are easily accessible.
When the vessel is in port, the duty AB shall keep a proper gangway watch and shall regularly check the tension of all mooring ropes.
In addition to the duties stipulated above, the AB shall perform other duties assigned to him by his superiors.
O.S (ORDINARY SEAMAN)
The OS shall assist the Bosun in his duties and shall carry out the duties of the AB, except that of watch keeping.Additionally, the OS shall take part in maintenance and cleaning of crew mess room and smoking room as described in above sub-section
