A heavy lift operation must always be well planned and performed with the utmost care. It is necessary to conduct a risk assessment and work with a work permit. FRONT LOADING The Master is responsible for planning, safe handling, loading and unloading of cargo. Loading Plan – The Chief Officer has developed an appropriate loading plan for the vessel to ensure cargo distribution to allow multiple hatch release based on the tonnage / cargo capacity details from the manifest. Permissible load on the deck / hatch – the maximum tank loading limit must be determined and checked in advance Cargo delays – Before loading in the cargo area, clean the cargo spaces, test holds, check hold lighting, ventilation and general holding conditions. Hatch covers – Before loading on the hatch cover, clean the hatch covers, lower the caps, fasten all side fasteners and check the general conditions of the hatch cover. Movable bulk items – all moving loads and all moved loads (individual units) must be properly secured and secured before starting the heavy lift. They may be moved or displaced when the vessel is on the list when lifting heavy loads, if they are not properly secured and safe. Dungeons and tipping devices – make sure there are enough clean dungeons and gears on board, and if not – order. Meetings – Gather all personnel (officers’ meetings) involved in heavy lifting operations and explain the procedure, “Dos” and “Don” and assign their responsibilities, Seaman vacancy. Stability and stress – In any heavy lift operation, a critical step when using a ship’s lifting gear is when the load has just cleared the ground. The weight of the cargo then acts as if it were placed on top of the lifting mechanism, and this causes a rise in the center of gravity of the ship. The initial stability must be adequate to avoid a situation where the center of gravity of the ship rises above its transverse metacenter, causing the shape of the overlapping lever. The ship will also be five when the cargo is lifted up, and any weakened tanks will create a free surface effect, causing the center of gravity to rise further. An assessment to be carried out to confirm the appropriate “GM” for the vessel before, during and after the removal of the cargo. It is very important that the problem is the danger that the ship will become unstable when the scales take the cranes, and for this it is necessary to develop a range of strategies. Use ballast water to balance the weight of the load as it rises from the pier. Check the voltage of the vessel and it should be de-energized constantly. Lifting devices – Safety systems in front of the working load must ensure the availability of appropriate and suitable lifting devices in accordance with the register of lifting devices and cargo transmissions, as well as any special devices available and used. Lifting devices on board must be of adequate strength. The maximum safe working load (SWL) and the maximum operating radius of all recesses must be predetermined. Check that the connected ropes, wires and guys, pads, braids and blocks match this load. The structure of the ship, crane, rudder or other lifting device and the supporting structure must be strong enough to withstand the loads that will be imposed during operation at maximum load. When choosing accessories for lifting, consider the following: 1) cargoes to be processed; 2) capture points; 3) bulk transfer for fastening of cargo and fastening of accessories to the lifting equipment; 4) atmospheric conditions; 5) mode and configuration of the sling. Freight book – must be relevant and available for inspection. Lifting gear certificates must be in order and the loading line sufficient SWL – Make sure the vessel does not violate the rules of carriage after loading and during passage.
