DEFECTS, DAMAGE AND MAINTENANCE
Equipment damage
In case of equipment damage, the senior mechanic is responsible for this:
Informing the General Director in a letter entitled "personal and confidential - for
information from the company's lawyers in anticipation of the trial."
Completing the appropriate maintenance or breakdown report.
Making appropriate entries in the vehicle registration log.
I am attaching photos with the report.
Defects of vehicles at sea (Marintraffic)
In the event of any adverse effects on the main machinery, the engineer in charge of the watch must take every precaution to prevent further damage by slowing or stopping the main engine if in his opinion this is necessary.
A responsible mechanic officer should never hesitate to call for help.
Log entries should be made about the events leading to the major breakdown or shutdown and the action taken.
The telex system should be used for urgent site repairs or special requirements such as manufacturer representatives. Vessels equipped with a fax machine should make full use of this facility when arranging emergency repairs to ensure proper quotations.
scheduled maintenance
Every effort should be made to keep up with established maintenance schedules. Any changes to the schedule, taking into account operating experience, must be brought to the attention of the fleet manager. Details of scheduled and unscheduled maintenance should be carefully recorded. Preliminary consultation on records can save unnecessary labor and wear and tear on components. A recent major repair of the failure may preclude further maintenance as originally planned. This will be at the discretion of the chief mechanic. Where maintenance is based on operating hours, these should be noted on each report.
To ensure uninterrupted, efficient operation of main and auxiliary diesel engines, it is necessary to frequently use machine monitoring equipment. This should be included in planned maintenance schedules.
Guides
Equipment manuals posted on board ships should be available to all engine room personnel and consulted regularly. Failure to follow these instructions may result in unnecessary damage, expense and lost man-hours. This cannot be included in planned maintenance schedules.
Security(Marinetraffic)
Strict adherence to the Merchant Seafarer Code of Safe Work Practices is required throughout all day operation and maintenance of all machines.
Particular care should be taken regarding the operation of vessels
when launching a "drone" or with only one person in the machine space. All loose equipment, spare gear and stores must be properly secured before going to sea.
“Permits to work”, where required, must be obtained before work commences.
Manufacturer's warranty
The central file for the manufacturer's warranty is kept at the head office. When goods subject to such guarantees are delivered to the vessel, all relevant documents must be landed on shore.
