This is a powerful, technically sophisticated vessel designed for setting, moving and removing anchors when installing various offshore objects - from drilling platforms to floating structures. What is an anchor breeder?
EThis is a specialized vessel involved in maritime operations for the placement of stationary objects. The main task is the installation and movement of massive anchor systems that hold, for example, oil platforms or floating docks at the desired point. Such vessels are equipped with powerful winches, cable devices, cranes and a dynamic positioning system (DP), which allows precise maneuvers even in difficult weather conditions.Main functions of the vessel:
placement of anchor systems for drilling platforms and other offshore facilities;
moving and removing anchors, their maintenance and condition monitoring;
transportation of equipment and cargo to remote sites;
participation in towing and positioning of platforms and vessels;
ensuring safe installation of offshore structures.
Many anchor breeders simultaneously perform the functions of tugs involved in emergency operations and transportation of ships.
What specialists are required?
Working at an anchor factory - This is team work. The vessel is equipped with powerful equipment that you need to know how to operate. The following vacancies are current:
Captain. Manages the ship, coordinates the actions of the crew, and is responsible for the safety of all operations. Experience working on special vessels is required.
Senior mate. Organizes and controls deck work, ensures compliance with safety regulations, and supervises sailors.
Mechanic. Ensures proper operation of engines, winches, hydraulics and other installations. High qualifications are required.
Sailors. Directly participate in operations on deck: securing anchors, managing cables, assisting with winches and cranes. Experience and physical training required.
Electromechanical Engineer (ETO). Monitors automation systems, electrical equipment and, where available, the DP system. Particularly important for ships operating offshore.
Cook. Responsible for feeding the crew. Working on a rotational vessel requires high-quality and satisfying food.
Working at an anchor factory often associated with long flights and being in remote areas - the Arctic, northern seas, shelves. There are certain features that you must be prepared for even before finding a job as an anchor maker: shift work (1-3 months), work in difficult weather conditions, a high level of responsibility, as well as the need to strictly adhere to all established instructions. Not ready for such conditions? In this case, working on such a ship is not suitable for you. What do you need to get a job?
In order to get settled work for an anchor factory, the applicant must meet a number of requirements:
maritime education in the relevant specialty;
package of documents: diploma, certificates, medical certificate, seaman’s passport;
Experience working on special vessels (desirable);
ability to work in a team and follow the instructions of senior officers;
knowledge of English is an advantage when working on ships flying a foreign flag;
Having a DP certificate is a plus when applying for a job as a modern anchor breeder.
