Jack-up installation: features, characteristics, subtleties of employment
Global energy is impossible without the development of offshore fields, and at the forefront of these processes are jack-up units - unique platforms, performing installation and service tasks in coastal areas. SPU are high-tech facilities located at the intersection of shipbuilding and marine engineering. They are the basis for the development of offshore oil and gas projects, especially at depths of up to 100 meters.But what is construction and how to get a job in it? Let's take a closer look.
Features and Specifications
Installation is a floating platform with long steel legs that sink to the bottom, raising the hull above the water level. This design provides the stability needed for drilling or installation processes. Unlike conventional ships, such structures do not move, but function as stationary bases.On board are located:
drilling towers;
pumping and compressor stations;
well control laboratories;
generator;
residential and medical modules;
helipads;
warehouses for equipment and spare parts.
Such platforms are designed to operate autonomously for 30–45 days. The crew can number from 50 to 100 people, including drillers, engineers, technicians, maintenance personnel and ship's crew.
Who can work for self-elevating installation?
Work at SPU available exclusively to qualified specialists. Availability of relevant papers, experience in offshore projects and specialized education are mandatory. Jobs in demand:

Drilling Device Operator - operates major equipment.
Mechanic/electrician - ensures uninterrupted operation of all technical systems.

The ship's crew includes a captain, navigators, sailors, cooks, doctors, and housekeeping staff.
When applying for a job, you need to be prepared for shifts: most often 28/28 or 35/35. Shifts are 12 hours long, completely remote from the shore. Requires endurance, stress resistance and the ability to work in a team.Work highly paid, but accompanied by increased safety requirements, regular training and certification.
