Probably every novice sailor who is just trying his hand at the navy or is looking for interesting vacancies wonders what the OSV (Offshore Support Vessel) vessel? These are special offshore platform support vessels that perform a wide range of tasks in the oil and gas, construction and rescue industries. These vessels are the true workhorses of the offshore industry, without which it is impossible to imagine any offshore oil and gas production operation.OSVs provide platforms with fuel, water, equipment, food, transport personnel, and participate in evacuations, towing, firefighting, and even rescue missions. Main functions and equipment 

Modern support vessels perform many tasks:

  • delivery of cargo and equipment to drilling and production platforms;

The crew must be technically competent and as focused as possible. People working on board:

  • captain, mates and navigators;

  • DP systems specialists;

  • crane operators, supply technicians.

OSV command are not just seafarers, but multifunctional specialists capable of working in harsh weather conditions, around the clock and under high pressure of responsibility.We can say that employers in this case put forward quite strict and complex requirements for applicants. You won’t be able to come “from the street” and find a job. The maximum position you can apply for in this case is the position of a sailor. Career growth will be possible only in the case of specialized training, receipt of appropriate diplomas and certificates.If you have already completed training and have all the necessary documents, you can safely send your resume to ship owners. But remember that during the interview it is important to show yourself on the positive side, express yourself and talk about all your abilities and talents. 

Who is it suitable for? work on OSV?

If you:

  • have experience in the offshore industry;

  • know English;

  • have STCW and offshore security certificates (BOSIET, HUET, H2S);

  • ready for rotational work offshore;

  • know how to work in an international team. 

Specialists with experience on DP vessels and knowledge of offshore equipment are especially valued.Working on OSV offers a high level of income and good conditions. Sailors receive: contracts 28/28, 42/42 or 60/30, food, accommodation and clothing, as well as international medical insurance, additional payments for work in difficult weather zones. Most sailors who work on such vessels also claim that they receive good bonuses for night watches and urgent operations.
