Power ship with power plant: energy that travels through the sea
What does it represent power ship with power plant? This is a kind of floating energy platform designed to generate and transmit electricity to coastal or isolated regions. Such ships are equipped with a full-fledged power plant running on liquid fuel, gas or even nuclear energy, and are capable of providing electricity to large ports, islands, bases and industrial facilities that do not have their own power source.
These vessels play a strategically important role in energy and infrastructure security. They are mobile, independent and can be deployed in crisis situations, including natural disasters, wars or rebuilding destroyed infrastructure.
Purpose and technical features of the craft
Power vessel is actually a floating power plant. On board there are:
diesel or gas turbine generators;
transformers, distribution boards;
fuel and cooling systems;
management and control systems;
backup power supplies;
cable lines for supplying power to shore.
Some of these vessels have a dynamic positioning (DP) system and can remain at a given point for a long time without mooring.The vessel is connected to the ground infrastructure via high-voltage cables. Such solutions are especially effective in hard-to-reach areas where the construction of a stationary power plant is impossible or impractical.
Who works on board?
Power vessel crew differs from the traditional composition due to energy specialists. The team includes:
captain, navigators, mechanics;
electromechanics, power engineers, turbine operators;
instrumentation and automation specialists;
automation engineers;
mechanics and sailors;
occupational safety and environmental specialists.
Often the customer's technical teams are attached to the vessel to handle shore connections and power distribution. Where can you find a job? It all depends on your experience, education, communication skills, etc.
Requirements for candidates
For work on a power vessel especially important:
experience on ships with powerful power plants;
knowledge of electrical equipment and generation systems;
availability of safety and energy certificates (including electrical safety);
knowledge of English is desirable;
ability to work in isolated shift conditions.
An additional advantage will be experience on vessels of a special or technical fleet, knowledge of remote monitoring systems, SCADA, PLC.Contracts range from 2 to 6 months. Shipowners offer job seekers, of course, stable wages, extended insurance, free accommodation and meals on board. Employees also have the right to compensation for risks and flights to the most remote areas. You can also work on such vessels on international projects. The work may involve a long stay in one place (up to several months) without entering a port, especially in areas where the ship provides a stable power supply.
