A Pumpman (Donkeyman, Cargo Pump Operator) is a qualified tanker rating responsible for operation and maintenance of cargo pumping systems, pipelines, valves and deck cargo equipment.This is one of the key positions on tanker fleet vessels. Pumpman performance directly affects the speed and safety of cargo operations, including:

  • loading;
  • discharge;
  • stripping;
  • tank cleaning;
  • inert gas operations.

A Pumpman holds a unique position onboard — reporting to the Chief Officer for cargo operations and to the Chief Engineer for technical maintenance.Formally, Pumpman is a rating position, but in reality it is one of the most skilled tanker cargo operations crew roles onboard.

Requirements for Pumpman Jobs

  • Oil Tanker Endorsement STCW V/1-1-1 or V/1-1-2.
